  •  The Prague International Marathon provides additional excitement in 2024, as athletes target Olympic qualification.

    This year's Prague International Marathon will be even more full of stories than usual. In addition to the group of elite runners who are looking to attack the race records of 2:05:09 (men) and 2:19:46 (women) the marathon in Prague has also become the last chance for runners to qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris 2024. The IOC moved the qualification deadline by a few days so that Olympic hopefuls could have a last chance to make the standard at this traditional event in the calendar. So, in addition to Ethiopian or Kenyan endurance runners, we will see elite competitors from China, Brazil, Mexico, Mongolia, Peru, Ecuador and India, as well as from Portugal and Bulgaria. In total, over 8,000 participants will take to the streets of Prague, and half of them will be from overseas. The 29th edition of this famous RunCzech event will start on Sunday at the Old Town Square from 9:00 a.m. Participants can also join the popular Battle of the Teams competition and be part of a team with elite runners.

    Eight thousand participants will line up at the start of the 29th Prague International Marathon this Sunday. The event takes a beautiful route through the historical centre of Prague, offering the runners their yearly fantastic event experience. In addition to the wonderful support of the spectators, this year runners will also be accompanied by a variety of music. There will be 23 musical groups along the route as part of the Marathon Music Festival, which RunCzech is organising in cooperation with the United Islands of Prague Festival.

    The pinnacle of the running season is fast approaching! Next weekend, May 5th ,The Prague International Marathon will take place, with over 8,000 runners expected to participate. Half of those taking part are from overseas, heading to the city of Prague from over 91 countries. According to statistics from Czech Tourism, this hugely important sporting event brought 190 million Czech crowns into the Czech economy last year, with this year's edition expected to exceed 200 million Czech crowns (8 million Euros). Additionally, the traditional running festival will globally showcase Prague, with footage from Charles Bridge and other iconic Prague landmarks set to reach 131 countries. After a year away, the start and finish return to Old Town Square. The Prague Marathon will kick off on Sunday, 5th May at 9:00.

While everyone is wondering who the men’s and women’s winners will be, this year The Prague International Marathon is about much more, it’s about athletes looking to fulfill their Olympic dream.

  • Kenyan Sawe broke Prague Half Marathon record and has the fastest time this year worldwide

    The running season has started in epic way! The sold-out Prague Half Marathon was won by Kenyan Sabastian Kimaru Sawe, the reigning world champion, who broke the race record by 23 seconds. The time of 58 minutes and 24 seconds is a new personal best for him, and it is the twelfth fastest half marathon in the historical ranking and the best performance this year. Among the women, the Ethiopian Gete Alemayechu Teklemichael won, the fastest Czech male runner was Patrik Vebr and the best female runner was Tereza Hrochová. The Prague Half Marathon is a part of the prestigious SuperHalfs series and, thanks to more than 15 thousand participants, it has become the largest mass sports event in the Czech Republic and one of the biggest events in Central Europe.

    Record participation of competitors, world champion in the running field, start and finish in a new location, route leading through the center of the metropolis. The sold-out Prague Half Marathon, which starts on Saturday at 10:00, is full of novelties. "This year's race will be really special. I'm thrilled to see people returning to running and trying to get moving after a darker period. This is great news for the Czech Republic and the whole society," said Carlo Capalbo, president of the RunCzech organizing committee. Among the elite runners, one of the most prestigious races will feature the reigning world champion Sabastian Kimaru Sawe from Kenya, as well as a record number of 15,500 runners from 115 countries. "The biggest race with a record? This is of course great news for Czech athletics. It's great that RunCzech has overcome the more difficult covid period and still motivates runners to move and brings them such amazing conditions," said Libor Varhaník, President of the Czech Athletics Federation.

    Naples begins its journey towards being the European Capital of Sport in 2026 with an equalling of the Italian half marathon record by Sofiia Yaremchuk (CS Army) who with 1h08'27" finished second in the Napoli City Half Marathon. The event now has the Italian male and female records, confirming itself as the fastest half marathon in Italy. The atmosphere was one of irrepressible enthusiasm under the sky of Naples, almost six thousand runners from over 70 countries started from Viale JF Kennedy to run 21.097 km on a course full of emotions, beauty, and history with the blue of the Bay of Naples on one side and Vesuvius in the background on the other, it was a postcard of an exceptional weekend.

  • RunCzech Celebrates 30 Years with Exciting News

    Record numbers and lots of news! RunCzech, the world-famous running race organizer, is entering its 30th season and has big plans for 2024. It expects over 100,000 registered competitors this year. That is why it has increased the capacity for the Prague Half Marathon to 15,500 runners. The now sold-out race, with more than half of runners being foreigners, also has a growing positive economic impact. Last year alone, RunCzech races generated 775 CZK million for the Czech economy, of which the three Prague races generated 589 CZK million. "We can feel the change in the atmosphere; the interest in running among people is growing again. More and more people realize that movement is significant for their lives. We want to help them as much as possible," says Carlo Capalbo, President of the RunCzech Organising Committee.
